Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times. That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. But resist him, be firm in your faith [against his attack—rooted, established, immovable], knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being experienced by your brothers and sisters throughout the world. Praise and glory be to God for this beautiful day and the opportunity to rejoice and be glad in it.
In today’s scripture the Apostle Peter is giving us a word to stay strong and overcome the attack of the enemy. He cautions the believer to be spiritually alert. That is properly armed in the Spirit for battle, employing all the spiritual warfare tools, garments and ammunition as stated in Ephesians 6. Clothed in the power of God we resist the devil and its agents.
The Apostle reiterated that we need to be sober and put on our faith mantle so that we can resist the devil who is roaming like a roaring lion seeking to devour God’s children.
In the name of Jesus Christ we take our position in Christ and overcome any attacks of the enemy. We resist the works of the devil and claim victory in Jesus Mighty name. Amen.
